Application: Home Theater
What I Like: Firest of all it is real cheap,i did buy it as a used unit for 1200$ in exlent condition, with video adapter ,my theater not that larg so i did have the right projection for it,i was using old sony vph 1027 but i was waried of the CRT live time which cuold cost me alot if i try to change them,so bye using this projector i said bye to very costy CRT projectors,i faced a littl problem in fiting and operting because i was having no manuals but i it became very easy when i got the picture abuot it so i am very happey with it now.
Suggestions: i made a spcial box to hide the projector in side the coffe table so no body noticed where is the picture is comming from but becarefull of the overheating please.
Comments: normally CPQ productes are not the best in the markets as you know but this projector was realy nice apart from the short lamp live (only 1000 Hrs) so if you are very warried abuot the lamp live i think he suold go for proxima sv1 or philps proscreen you can have 4000 to 8000 Hrs which i think will be my next step longer lamps live.

Application: Home Theater
What I Like: If you're interested in Home Theater, you should check out this projector.

Beautiful picture, sharp, excellent contrast, well saturated, no artifacts (at least when driven by a PC's DVD-ROM drive and a high end video card). Has digital input, which only one other projector I'm aware of has at this time (Sharp Notevision 7). At a little over $4k, you get a big screen home theater projector that makes big screen TV's look puny. 1024x768 resolution. 600 lumens is plenty for a bright picture, even in less than perfect light conditions. Projector is tiny (4.2 lbs), and can fit into most any room situation. I have mine in our living room, and you don't even notice that the room has the capability for home theater until I bring it up off a shelf under a table and set it up to go.
Comments: The MP1600 is a DLP projector, using TI's technology. This technology gives excellent contrast and good black levels (blacks look black), two areas where business projectors are often lacking for home theater or video viewing. One inherent drawback of single-chip DLP technology is that, depending on the source material, you may occasionally notice a "rainbow artifact" if you dart your eyes across the screen. Doesn't bother me at all, and I don't even notice it much, but you have to recognize that none of the home theater projector solutions are perfect (at least anywhere near this price range). There's still no comparison to big screen TV or even RPTV. I get a beautiful image on a 120" screen. Also, unit has fixed lens, so you lose a little flexibility in room placement; not much of a problem, though, since unit is so tiny.

MP1600 is best driven by using the DVD in a home PC. (In fact that's the case for any HT projector.) Unit doesn't even come standard with composite or S-video inputs, though add-on adapter is available for $250 to add them. I've used the composite input driven by a cheap VCR and didn't get a good picture. Don't know how the S-video would look. I plan to use it for HDTV in the future, but can't comment on how it looks right now because I've never done it on the projector. PC HDTV solutions should be coming out soon, which will likely yield equivalent or better picture quality for less money that HDTV set top boxes.
