EDINA PUBLIC SCHOOLS RAISE THE BAR FOR CLASSROOM VIDEO INSTRUCTION WITH INSTALLATION OF HITACHI CP-X443 PROJECTORS

-- More than 250 Hitachi CP-X443 projectors are used with streaming video in classrooms throughout the 7,500-student school district in Minnesota.--

BRISBANE, CALIFORNIA, www.hitachi.us, August 3, 2006 - In a large-scale project that demonstrates the remote management capabilities and ease of use of Hitachi projectors, the Edina Public Schools in Minnesota has installed more than 250 Hitachi CP-X443 3LCD projectors in all of its classrooms on the fourth to 12th grade level.

With 7,500 students throughout the district, Edina Public Schools has made a concerted effort to equip its students and teachers with cutting-edge technology to enrich the learning experience. "Our philosophy is that technology should be integrated and infused within the curriculum so that it's a part of the subject at hand, not simply an accessory," said Dr. Mike Burke, director of District Media and Technology for Edina Public Schools. "We are aware that students are growing up in the technology age and are well versed in multimedia tools, so it's a huge advantage of students can take that familiarity to the classroom."

The projector installation was part of an $85 million construction bond issued to Edina Public Schools, which included the addition of athletic and fine art facilities, as well as an integrated voice/data/video system. "We moved to a video distribution system over IP and we're using hardware and distribution software from VBrick, which allows us to broadcast live streaming video to individual classrooms," Dr. Burke said. "With the streaming video, the Hitachi projectors provide a full-screen effect."

Working with Troxell Communications, Edina Public Schools selected the Hitachi CP-X443 projectors from a numbers of competitive models for the variety of control options they offer. "We did quite a bit of research and found that the CP-X443 had some features that no other projector had," said Al Bliss, technology specialist, District Media and Technology for Edina Public Schools. "The desktop software control that allows for control of the projector from a PC was a huge benefit for the teachers and students--whoever is presenting. Additionally, the PJMan? software goes a long way towards offering centralized management, which is an important factor when you have so many projectors throughout the school district."

With PJMan projector management software, users can easily monitor the status of the projector (or many projectors), as power on/off, input source and lamp/filter hours are all on display. Individual or group view includes PJ name, IP address, power status, input source, lamp and filter time. Moreover, the software allows for control over these functions. Additionally, users can schedule power on/off events on an hourly, daily and weekly basis. Events can be applied to an individual or group of Hitachi projectors. Other features such as e-mail alerts for scheduled maintenance or error conditions, as well as password protection, give the user a new level of control at no extra charge.

Since the installation of the first CP-X443 projectors in November 2005, the teachers and students alike have quickly taken to the technology, and plans to outfit the rest of the school district with Hitachi projectors are in the works. "Everyone was excited about using the projectors even before they were installed, and now the teachers and students absolutely love using them," Dr. Burke noted.

"The learning curve for the projectors is very small, because of how intuitive the user interface is," Bliss added. "Hitachi worked closely with us to make sure our needs were met, and they were extremely helpful. The whole experience so far has been terrific."
