Right off the bat, I loved this projector. I've been through a few models before I finally settled on this one(notably the NEC VT440, Proxima LS1, and the Infocus LP330). I've had this projector for almost 3 weeks and I have very little to complain about. It's primary use is for video, however I wouldn't consider using it with anything other than a DVD player with the optional BNC-RGB convertor cable and BNC-RCA adaptors(you can pick this cable up for around $20 shipped and the connectors for about $8). The difference in color is like night and day. You know the color is right whenever you can watch an entire movie without ever stopping to wonder, "why this shade of blue, green, red, etc.. just doesn't look right". I was amazed at the level of detail and vibrant colors produced by this projector. My jaw hit the floor when I fired up "Any Given Sunday" and saw color and detail like I've never seen before at this price. One thing of interest to me was the pixel structure of this projector. Every LCD projector I have ever seen has had at least one dead pixel somewhere on the screen and my Mitsubishi S250 is no exception. However the only way to see it is to stand no more than 2 feet from it. With other projectors the dead pixels are visible no matter how far away you get. The Mitsubishi has a constant on blue and 2 constant on green dead pixels. Believe me I am very critical when it comes to dead pixels and I swear you cannot see these from more than 2 feet away from the screen. Most noticeably the NEC VT440 I had had only 1 blue dead pixel and it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Anway the only problem I have with this projector is the menu interface and the remote. The menu is awkward, clumsy, obtrusive, and aggravating. Also,to not put a UHF remote control on a piece of equipment this expensive is just plain ludicrous. You HAVE to be almost directly in front of the projector in order to operate it with the remote.
Aside from these minor gripes, the Mits. is a dream. I quess it's true what they say, if a company makes a good TV, they generally make a good projector. In the case of Mitsubishi, this definitely rings true. |
