Wes - Nov 30, 2000

Application: Home Theater
What I Like: The picture quality for a $2800 projector. I bought this brand new off Ebay (seller was Wattsound.
Suggestions: Needs to have a more powerful bulb to view in anything brigher than dim lighting.
Comments: Ouch! 4 hours of viewing and it crapped out. No one can work on this unit so it had to go back to Mitsubishi. NEVER EVER take an advanced electronic component to SoundTrack (Ultimate Electronics) for service, they spent 2.5 weeks looking at the unit before shipping the unit back to Mitsubishi. I will say this, the unit was superb for the short time it ran and I look forward to getting it back!

Application: Home Theater
What I Like: The bang for the buck - $3000 brand new in box.
Suggestions: Make sure you get specs on throw distance and mounting options before you purchase a screen.
Comments: I upgraded from a Sharp 96U to this and cannot believe the difference in picture quality. The sharp w/ around a million pixels was like watching movies through a screen door. With about 2.3 million pixels the VL-2000 produces an image that is very clear and I can't see the pixels at all from where I sit, 10-12 feet from my 100" screen. The only thing I liked about my Sharp that the VL2000 does not have is the lens shifting, limiting the options of where I can place the projector. Also, the fan noise level is about the same as my older model sharp when I was expecting some advancement in that area. You can watch movies w/ some ambient light, but for the best effect, a dark room is needed. For bright colorful movies like Elmo in Grouchland (you should see my 2-year old's reaction to a four foot Elmo) you can have quite a bit of light in the room and still get a good picture compared to something like The Matrix, which has a lot of dark scenes. I bought this projector from wattsound.com and dealt with Steve. (I spent about 2 weeks scouring ebay and nothing on there compared to the deal I got dealing directly with wattsound) Great service-they shipped the unit the same day I ordered it and provided set-up advice as well as screen advice. They bought a bunch of these from Mitsubishi- I don't know if they have any left, but it is worth finding out.

Application: Home Theater
What I Like: The product basically lived up to my expectations except for service. Good picture and features.
Suggestions: Do not buy.
Comments: Repair service, required after only 6 months, was not available anywhere in the USA except the Mitsubishi factory/repair center in Georgia. Service on this unit is the worst. I have been waiting for over a month. The dealer from whom I purchased, Columbia Audio/Video in Illinois will provide no relief either. Likewise, do not recommend the dealer or the product.

Application: Home Theater
What I Like: Nice Picture With Component Input.
Many Adjustments
Easy to install and use.
Low fan noise
Great Price ($3000.00 Brand New)
Suggestions: Dark Room. Play with the video settings and the user settings in the signal menu. Email me for good settings. Use digital sattelite or the new Direc TV HDTV Reciever with component output for best regular television viewing.
Comments: Component video input is sharp and clear! Video input is lacking the luster, with a slightly blurry picture (On my 150" screen anyways).
DVD's Look brilliant with black blacks and white white's, with the proper settings. Use a 2.0 gain screen or brighter for more brightness. Try a higher wattage metal halide bulb. A 280 watt is in it, try a 300-350 for more brightness. Mitsubishi does not support this(They want you to buy a more expensive projector) but it works.
For $3000.00 this is one of the best projectors for the home theater buff! A line doubler or quadrupler does sharpen the video input and makes component unfu&*ing believable!
