Okay, I just recieved the projector yesterday,
and didn't get a chance to check image quality
as I just got my screen today. I got a cheap
Da-Lite 1.5 video spectra 84x84 modelB, but
for some reason I believe I didn't get what
I want. F*! Note: Square formats are way cheaper
than video formats for some reason, and the
pull down can be stopped any height. Go figure.
Anyhow, it seems like Pana video handling is good.
I paid 1949$, and it seems to have simple but nice
features, well though off unit - silver gray.
I bought it because of the review at proj central
and because the cheap viewsonic I was aiming
failed their tests.
The remote looks useful.
It turns on in 5 to 10 sec, and doesn't spend
it's time 'perfecting the picture'.
The real reason I'm writing this is I DON'T BELIEVE
the unit is only 30dB. When using the 1200 lumens
output, it makes at least as much noise as an
InFocus DLP I tried before, way more than can be forgotten when watching a movie - unless it's
diehard-2. Furthermore the air pulled out is
really warm so it's needed.
I BELIEVE it is in 30dB mode when using 'standard'
ie low power lamp mode. In this mode it's pretty
quiet, but light output is much less.
There is a visible brightness difference between
the 2 modes, that you notice mostly when switching
mode. At night it's OK to use the low power mode
but if there's some ambiant light I suspect
it's going to be way paler.
As for the screendor effect, I clearly see it,
but the InFocus DLP I tried also had visble pixels
with diffraction (slightly red on the edges),
but at viewing distance, it's not big deal.
Basically: different names, different
technologies but same result: you see the pixels.
For YPbRb you need a cinch-VGA adapter.

This is my first projector. Although I wanted to buy the PTL-C75U (the price was quite a bit more) I settled for the PTL-C55U ($1945) following the great review from ProjectorCentral and I am very please with my decision. The screen effect is barely noticeable from 10’ away w/60x80 screen and the video is amazing with a DVD progressive but I was really surprise with the quality of the picture with a NTSC signal: I have Adelphia Digital and some of the channels are coming in very good (I guess not all the channels are in higher resolution??). With two VGA/RGB connection and SVideo input, there is enough room to connect a future satellite dish. All in all, this is a very good home projector. Thanks Panasonic. |
