Great for a budget Home Theater. If your only used to direct view and RPTV's, this projector will blow you away!
Wish it could easily accept an external doubler :( |

I've had this projector since around Jan 2000 and I absolutely love it. The only real gripe I have with it, is that it doesn't easily accept an outboard scaler(ie DVDO) or progressive scan DVD player. While the internal doubler is quite good and actually better than most in it's price range, it's not perfect. If your watching a film with a lot of fast vertical pans, you can see scan lines which can be distracting sometimes.
The good news is that you can mate an HTPC with the 400Q which I've heard works great. You can also use the AVS Crystal Image scaler as well, but it will set you back $1800!
HDTV looks amazing with this projector, with much greater impact than what you see on a small RPTV HDTV unit. You have to see it to believe it.
Overall, this projector is a great performer and is ready for the HDTV furture to boot! You should be able to find one for less than $3000.

the native 16:9 shape. The good built-in line doubler. The flexible aspect ratio modes. The zoom lens. The price! |

The picture isn't perfect. The colors can look weird. It's odd -- sometimes the picture is stunning and film-like, with perfect flesh tones. Other times, even in the same movie, flesh tones will look terrible. Service menu tweaking is a must.
It has a very loud fan. Like running a small microwave in the tv room.
Casual viewers are absolutely blown away by the size, image and price. Picky (& wealthy) folks might want to get something better. |
