At the current Internet price of $5,000, the LX1 is not as attractive as some of the other products in the category. It weighs in at 8.1 lbs, and has the largest form factor in the group of twenty, which is 493 cu.in. With an ANSI lumen rating of 800, about average for the group, the extra weight and size does not buy you any extra light output. There is nothing wrong with this product, other than it is now unremarkable compared to its competitors.
The one unique quirk in the technical specs is the 4000-hour lamp life. However, unless you plan to use the projector 8 hours per day or more, the cost of ownership is not significantly improved by this extended lamp performance. If you have very extended usage requirements, say 16 hours per day or more, lamp costs will be a notable factor in cost of ownership, and thus you may want to give the LX1 serious consideration.
For those who do not have extended usage requirements, with the current crop of competitors, the LX1 price needs to drop 20% in order to remain a viable option.
