I had to give a plug to Samsung Techwin for sponsoring an essay contest whose submissions might give some great insight. Ten high school students have the opportunity to win $1000 scholarships for writing on whether technology is critical to a live presentation or if it is is only a crutch.
It will be interesting to see if young people lump all classroom technology together as so many of my generation seem to do, or if they will distinguish between classroom projectors, whiteboards, interactive projectors,3D, document cameras, audio enhancers and myriad other technologies. I wonder if they'll deem some technologies critical and others distracting. An independent panel will be doing the judging and awards will be made on the basis of original thinking, relevance to the real world and the quality of the writing. The submittal deadline is midnight PST, April 30, 2011 and the awards will be announced June 30, 2011. Contest information is here
