Opinion of Christine - Mar 27, 2007
I purchased this projector in November of 2005 after a full year of research and speculation. At that time we received a spare bulb with our purchase. The picture quality is excellent out of the box on the Cinema modes, and the other modes are rarely used except when watching certain television programs. It's primary use is for watching movies, so I can't comment on it's HD clarity. This unit projects onto a 4 x 8 foot home-made screen that I painted myself using a recipe I found online. I have screen samples from Da-lite and found this home made screen to be comparable.
One of the reasons we selected this particular unit was for it's throw distance. We have a fairly large room 18' x 22' and weren't sure of it's permanent mounting location. Currently it is on a shelf 4' from the back of the room so it is throwing about a 106" screen from 17-18 feet. The picture quality is quite nice in a darkened room and brighter movies (such as incredibles) are quite watchable with some lights on. In fact I have commented more than once that the picture is much nicer than the movie at our old theatre in our town.
My children like to sit very close to the screen (within 8 feet or so)so the lack of screen door was a real asset with this purchase as well. Even from that distance the picture is delightful. The rest of our seating varies from 15 to 12 feet from the screen. Average use is once per week for 2-4 hours per use.
Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and expect it to last me several years yet.
None whatsoever. Hopefully none for the future.
