Personal Experience
I bought my Epson 550 used with about 300 hours on the lamp. I was trying to get the least expensive yet best projector I could find. I didn't expect the Epson to look as good as it does. 1080i/720p looks simply amazing on this projector. It's very easy to operate and produces very little noise in Theater Black mode. This projector will get me by for a few years until 1080p projectors come down in price.

Problems
Lens shift is kind of quirky but functional (I'm not sure how it compares to other projectors).
