My Infocus 4805 died after only 2 years of very little use. Infocus tech support via India is horrible! Told me I needed a new $350 bulb. Was not the problem took 2 weeks to get a refund. Discovered it needed a new main board - $785.00 estimate! So, decided to buy a new projector. This unit has a $200 mail in rebate. (print via Optoma website) Found it on Bestbuy.com for $899 ($100 off list) Drove down to BB to pick it up. Noticed the sticker on the unit said $999. Asked for a price check was told it was $499!!! Grabbed it ran to the cashier and paid fast. Yes, it was priced wrong in their system.
Installation was very simple. Went from my Mac Mini DVI to the HDMI on the projector. Used my universal ceiling mount from the Infocus. Needed to modify it a bit to make sure the vents were not blocked. Picture quality is excellent. 720p content is beautiful. No rainbow effect like the 4805 used to have. More quiet. Better menus and input finder. Did not have any problem mounting on the ceiling at all. Lens cap stays on but will change the focus/zoom if you push too hard. Conclusion: For $899 (or $499) this is a fantastic projector. No regrets at all. This will hold me over until 1080p projectors come down in price. |
