| For the price the HC 4900 is superb. Like its more expensive siblings the picture quality is superior to most 1080p projectors on the market, especially when deinterlacing. The contrast ratio on this particular model is significantly less than the HC 6000 and HC 5000, however if you don't plan on making the screen much larger than 100" inches, I don't think the contrast ratio will be an issue. The connections are typical, one HDMI, one DVI, component and composite connections. There's enough connections here anyway, as a good receiver will handle the switching for multiple AV components. This is my second projector, the previous was a 720p Sharp. This projector has considerably less screendoor effect, and I can sit almost a full two feet closer when watching a full 1080p source (ie Blu-ray and HD-DVD). Previously, with a 92" screen, I sat about 11 feet away, now I can sit comfortably at nine and could push it to eight feet if I felt compelled. The color reproduction is also considerably better. The lush greens and natural reds and browns seen in King Kong on HD look phenomenal on this projector. The best thing about this projector, like all the new Mitsubishi's is the quiet fan. I cannot hear it at all (using it exclusively in low mode), and I sit right under it. My Xbox 360 is now the real problem with fan noise. For about 2500 bucks this 1080p projector is a solid competitor for those of us that have budgets smaller than our appetites. |

| This model doesn't have a keystone correction. The horizontal and verticle lens shift make for relative ease in ceiling mounting, but without this keystone correction, it can be frustrating for a time. Just make sure you've got a verstile ceiling mount. Also the Auto Iris 1 setting reproduces a very odd effect. Its almost irritating to the eye, and will give you a headache if watch it for too long. As of this writing I've got 100 hours on the projector. So far nothing else has emerged. |
