Personal Experience
This is the BEST your money can buy as of now. I have compared this unit till I was blue in the face. I had it side by side with the NEC 1000 as well as many other "flavor of the month" projectors. It is sharper and more lifelike in detail and color. The longer throw lens gives you a wider range of focus. The build and design could be better and the firmware updates are questionable in their benefit. I have just committed to exchange the unit for another due to some issues with a vertical line as well as connectivity problems, but I will post a follow up review once I receive and compare the two. So far, I believe that the older firmware may be responsible for the best picture quality and brightness range on this projector. I hope to be proven wrong. Over all, great support team and very nice people at Optoma! A pleasure to work with them in resolving any questions. You cannot spend anywhere in this price range and get better PQ!! Don't even waste your time. Get it ASAP and enjoy it with the Bravo D1 in its custom DVI 1:1 bitmap mode - short of HD, this is it!!! I also use the 96" Da-Lite Matt White. Everyone says High Contrast, but at that size, you still get enough light and punch with good blacks if you push the projector to the limit. The up side to Matt White is there is least grain visible on the screen, no sheen and best color range you can get! I tried High Contrast and if you ever have the reference point, you see it as if you are wearing sunglasses all the time. Not my idea of fun. With larger screen size, I will eventually go to high power screen. 96" wide 16:9 is ideal, but for now the 96" video has so little grain and no screen door that I am able to sit unbelievably close to the screen and still enjoy it.

Problems
Issues with a green, vertical line in composite mode as well as connectivity issues of not recognizing connected equipment. Dust may be a problem, but Optoma will clean the projector when sent in for FREE within warranty period. Recommend you spend $295 to extend warranty to 5 years. Everything, but abuse of projector and lamp life is covered then! Also, the unit is put together not in Japan as most of its competitors and does not have a rock solid feel to its construction. With such a good and long warranty and the best image around, it is in my opinion still the best buy and was my choice.
