Personal Experience
This projector is a light cannon! At 2200 lumens (actual lumens is probably a bit lower - read independant reviews) this projector blows away just about any competitor under $15k. Image quality is very good, and construction is solid. It's a beefy machine (over 15 lbs), so make sure you buy a solid mount if this will go on a ceiling. For those who will want to mount this projector on the ceiling, I can attest to the lens shift working as specified. I have a 92"x52" screen, and I have the projector mounted 8" ABOVE the screen. Just using the lens shift (no keystone correction), I am able to show a perfectly square image on the screen.

Image quality is impressive. Yes, if you know to look for the screen door you can find it - but in my opinion if you're looking that hard for it, you're missing one astounding picture. Sure, a high end dlp machine will have a slightly (and I do mean SLIGHTLY) better picture in terms of contrast, but IMHO it's very small price to pay for no rainbows and the high light output (which no DLP machine in this price range can even come close to).

I have this projector mounted in a family/recreation room where ambient light is always present. In the daytime there is a wall of windows on one side of the presentation area (they do have shades, but not blackout binds), and at night we always have lights on to be doing other things. This projector has the light output to handle those conditions with no problem. And when we really want to sit down as a family for a movie - turning off most of the lights, etc - the picture is astounding.

There have been some knocks by others about dust blobs on the LCD panels and with short lamp life. I've not had those problems; though I admit that I clean the filters every 2-3 weeks, and we typically only put 10-15 hours/week on the projector. Be aware that the filters on current production projectors have been improved over the earlier models - so I suspect with routine cleaning the dust problem has been largely eliminated.

One final thought - after searching around quite a bit, and finally chosing this projector, I had a number of technical questions I wanted answered prior to sale. After calling a number of dealers as well as Sany, and getting some (but not all) of my questions answered, I finally called Studio Experience (the Studio Experience 20HD is the same as the PLV-70, except that it is white instead of grey). SE's customer support was OUTSTANDING. After answering all my questions, they referred me to two online dealers (there are no dealers in my area, and SE does not do direct customer sales). My suggestion is to do your own research, but be aware that many dealers do not provide post-sale support. In that case, you will have to deal with either Sanyo or Studio Experience (whoever you're manufacturer was). I chose SE because of their customer support (and it didn't hurt that the projector was white, which blends better with the ceiling).
