| I've been running the HT-1100 for several weeks now, and really couldn't be much happier with it. They've been available in Australia since early Feb. I'm running it on a 110" 4x3 screen which is maskable to 100" at 16x9. DVD's, internet, games, photos, HD clips and the T2 Extreme HD disc all come off an HomeTheatrePC through a 10 metre DVI-D cable. With a digital projector, running DVD's at its native resolution (in this case 1024x768) at 75Hz or 72Hz beats any set-top DVD player. But everything looks phenomenal, particularly HD, whether from the PC or a DigitalTV set-top box. Surprised how well plain old analogue TV and VHS come up via S-Video. I like it in eco-mode with the iris about half-way, so I slightly sacrifice the blacks for a punchier overall picture. In my room, the brightness is perfect. The contrast and black detail is just excellent - as good or better than many units at over twice the price, and better than my old CRT, since it's brighter overall. Processing through the analogue inputs seems a lot better than the HT1000, now they've got rid of Faroudja. Hardly needed any tweaking out of the box - only levels from the HTPC end. Love the blanking feature, the image shift and the new menu. Nice backlit remote. Fan is real quiet. Also, neither me or friends have had issues spotting rainbows unless you shake your head around on mega hi-contast images, in which case you deserve a headache. |

| Came with some dirt or something behind the lens, which NEC cleaned out in 2 days. Being a digital projector, there's some colour-banding on fast pans, etc. - but you'll get that even on $20,000 units. Would be nice to be able do image-shift without going into the menu. Would also be nice to have 1280x720 rez, especially as the pixel structure is very slightly visible. But the big 4x3 screen and 3000 hour lamp-life will keep me holding onto this puppy for quite a while... |
