Personal Experience
This is a follow-up to a mini-review I submitted on March 10, 2004. I felt compelled to write this because I had some initial problems with my H76, but I have experienced something that is all too rare when dealing with (some) manufacturers, outstanding follow-up customer service. As previously reported, I had some relatively minor problems that were addressed and corrected with the replacement (second and third) units I was sent, but the "lens shift" function persisted and still did not work at all. That, to me at least, was a major problem. It seems as though this problem only manifests itself when the projector is ceiling mounted, upside down. The fourth (and final) unit I received on June 12, 2004, appears to be just about perfect, and has restored my faith and confidence in Optoma. The one constant with this projector was the beautiful image. All four projectors produced a very high quality, bright picture, especially with Hi Def sources, either off the air or from my Sony DirectTV receiver. I can now report, without hesitation, that this is an outstanding projector. The (Optoma) tech support department really listened to my complaints and went above and beyond to insure that I was completely satisfied. I am now! This a very quiet (especially in the Eco mode) projector and the light output is enough for daytime viewing, even if there is some ambient light. This time, Optoma clearly delivered the goods.
Problems
All problems that I experienced with the first unit were corrected by a software update, and the the "lens shift" problem, which I believe is strictly mechanical, has apparently been corrected. So far, with this projector, I have ablolutly no complaints. Good job!
