Personal Experience
I've owned the XD300U 8 months. I've been pleased with the 1024x768 image used for 720 and 1080 HD sources, as well as the regular 4x3 image of non-hd sources. I project onto a 120" diagonal matte white screen. I've been only slightly bothered by whites "blooming" a bit. Projector fan sound is not a problem. Set up was simple. The processor does an adequate job, though the circles on a hockey rink will jaggy-out a bit when the camera moves a bit too fast (and similar other video scenes). Lens cap is a bit cheap.
Problems
I'm now at 964 hours of lamp life. (menu-features- press 'still' then 'vol +' then still) At about 900 hours I began to notice a substantial decrease in the brightness /intensity of the display. For the first 700 hours or so I had no problem watching with just about enough ambient light to read by. Now, the picture is unacceptably washed out with even the slightest amount of ambient light... and is really not particularly 'great' anymore even in total darkness at night. Now, this *might* be because my dealer used the lamp before sending it to me, and dishonestly resent the lamp timer before doing so. I have no reason to believe that other than that I'm noticing SIGNIFICANT picture quality loss WELL before the claimed 3000hr lamp life. I could understand some loss of intensity at 2/3 or even 1/2 the claimed lamp life, but this is a bit much to take. The projector is well ventilated. I clean the filter every month, and I've never had a temperature alarm. I know I'm not supposed to ask questions, but it would be nice if other owners would comment on the amount of lamp time passed before they began to notice diminished picture quality. I'll update my review when I have experience with a CERTAIN brand new bulb. Cordially, Doc
