| Personal Experience |
| This projector was a Christmas gift for the family (Dec. 2004). We don't have it set up permanently yet, but the portability lends itself to temporary set-up. It couldn't be easier to set up. This projector really shines in its zoom and vertical and horizontal offset capabilities. Projecting on an off-white wall, the image is very good. People have quibbled about the black levels. Maybe there are projectors with better, but this is good enough. The 720 hozizontal resolution exposes the limits in the source material. In my experience there is no screendoor effect. I have not experienced vertical banding. There was a slight waving of the picture when connected to interlaced component output. Switching the dvd player to progressive scan solved the problem. Watching the train scene in Spiderman II was awesome. We've checked out IMAX movies from the library. Even though the native IMAX format is actually 3:2, the Z-2 gives you pleasing viewing options in full and wide screen modes. Sanyo just dropped the list price to $1995 after introducing the Z3. The street prices have remained constant. I considered and almost bought the BenQ PB6200, however repeated tales of late rebates in this forum and elsewhere led met to value that projector at the full purchase price and not the purchase price minus rebates, so on that basis, the Sharp, for not much more, gave much higher resolution and more flexible input/output and mounting options at a slight cost in brightness level. By the way, although I bought the projector to use in a light-controlled basement, we haven't set it up there. The rooms we have set it up in have some ambient light.. Naturally, the darker the room, the better the picture, but the picture is good enough to watch even with usable light in the room. |
