Personal Experience
The Infocus X2 is my first Multipurpose DLP digital projector. I consider it an entry level projector and have future plans to upgrade to the Home Theater Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD digital. However, at half the price, the X2 is an excellent buy for the money.

After having researched the X2 projector and other various components, I purchased the X2 sight unseen and have been very pleased with the results. I haven't found the quality to be equal to HD as stated by many but with the following components, I obtained very favorable results.

Infocus X2 projector purchased used $735
Toshiba SD-5970 HDMI DVD Player; $143
HDMI cable with gold plated connectors; $18
M1 to HDMI adapter; $48
75 foot TOS-link fiber optic audio cable; $35
Dalite 8 foot projector screeen; $172
Infocus X2 ceiling mount; $33
Total purchases came in just under $1200 including all shipping.

I used the TOS-link fiber optic cable to supply my audio from the Toshiba DVD player to my Yamaha 200 watt Reciever and Polk Audio speakers that I purchaged for around $500 three years ago. Others have stated that the X2 has a good speaker but I would have to disagree. If you want the best sound you will want to purchase a Dolby Digital Receiver with complementary speakers and subwoofer. I used the fiber optic cable because after running the cable from the back of my living room up through the wall, into the atic and the back down to my receiver, I used the entire 75 feet of cable. In theory there is no loss of signal using fiber optic TOS-link cables as found with HDMI and other wire cables. I keep my DVD player just below my X2 which is wall mounted 7 feet in the air using a heavy duty shelf bracket and the X2 ceiling bracket. I have 13 foot tall ceilings and decided on 7 feet because I'm over 6 feet tall and this enables me to walk in front of the prjector while viewing movies and still reach up and make minor adjustments and reach the toggle switch to turn the unit off. The top of my projector screen is 8 feet in the air and while on 4.3 aspect ratio the immage comes to 2 feet above the ground with a 6'X8' immage.

Problems
In going from the native 4.3 aspect ratio to 16.9 I find the immage to be compacted in the height and it is distorted slightly which is why I have future plans on purchasing the AE700U,(WXGA/LCD with 16.9 native aspect ratio.)
Also the fan noise is very loud when displaying 1600 lumens and I always watch on the wisper mode which is only 1100 lumens. Hind sight being 20/20, I think that I would have purchased the Infocus 4805 screen play which doesn't have as many lumens but for the same price it is susposed to have superior color quality;(see Projector Centrals compairison article.)
I need to further control the light entering my living room as the picture is best viewed in a darker room. I purchased the X2 for the 1600 lumens knowing this but the fan noise is over whelming at that level.
Finally, I was talked into purchasing the Toshiba SD-5970 DVD player by another review and have been very disappointed with the performance of the remote control in my unit. I have 2 cheep APEX DVD players and they are both much more user friendly.
