| Picked this up today as they were having a sale - $599 with a $100 rebate. I was originally going to purchase the EP719 for the increased resolution but decided that $500 for a SVGA projector was too good of a deal to pass up and the trade-off wasn't that great to me. I don't have a very elaborate setup - just DVD and XBOX. Both are component to a Viewsonic convertor that passes out a VGA signal to the projector's VGA input. I have the projector setup on a coffee table pointing at a painted white wall that's about 10 feet away. This was my first foray into DLP and yes, I notice the rainbow effect. Because of that, I don't know if I'll be keeping the projector because my eyes seemed to be very strained after doing some test watching. One of my test movies, the Matrix II did have some "resolution artifacting" during scenes of a lot of motion - not sure if it's the fault of the resizing algorithms in the machine or the DVD. I did play a 4:3 movie ("An Evening With Kevin Smith" - all I had on hand) and didn't notice this problem. The brightness of the projector is a non-issue. In a room with the veritcal blinds drawn with some ambient light hitting the projection wall, I didn't really seem to bug me. On Econo mode, this thing is very silent and it's only sitting about 2 feet away from me and the volume of the material is pretty low. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the purchase. I mean, $500 for a projector is a pretty good deal. |
