Personal Experience
Spent $500 during the Xmas special. Large (85") warmely lit image on a black-felt-masked blackout cloth screen ($30). Colors are excellent. Contrast very good. Sharpness, brightness, black level seem so-so (although I don't have much to compare to). My basement theater is totally darkened so that is not an issue. Animation feature films are particularly satisfying. Flesh tones are very realistic. The poor man's movie theater impresses everyone. Component video connection is the best.
Problems
Rainbows galore. But I don't notice them unless I try to. And they don't give me a headache or fatigue. WHo cares? No remote. You must be reasonably technologically savvy to use this projector. Fan noise is a little bothersome now that I have it ceiling mounted and my favorite viewing seat is right under it! All setting except 4:3 result in stretching of the image. Maybe I need a better DVD. Also, cable TV image sucks. But that's the cable company's fault, not the projector.
