Review schedule update 10/7

We've been working on the review of the Epson 3010 since it arrived last weekend...

The initial plan as I reported here on Monday was to post the review by the middle of next week. The unit we have been evaluating is a late-state pre-production unit.

Epson has just informed us that a change has been made for the final production units. This change is specifically germane to our review. At the moment it appears we will be able to get a production sample by the end of next week. Since we want to review the 3010 with the final production run updates, we are going to push back our estimated publication date about a week to ten days.

From the email we've received concerning the 3010, we know everyone is extremely anxious to see this review, and getting it done is our top priority. However, since we are now aware that the sample in our possession is not representative of what you will end up buying, we must wait for the new sample.

In the meantime, we will be finishing up a review of Epson's MG850HD MegaPlex, which is an $800 home entertainment system that features an iPod and iPad dock. A very cool product. Bill's review of the MegaPlex will be posted this coming Tuesday.

The Panasonic AR100 will arrive a week from Monday, so that is still on schedule for review by the end of the month.

"At the moment it appears we will be able to get a production sample by the end of next week." --> we are at the end of next week... did you receive the production unit?

eh, to each their own then Brad. you go ahead and wait your life away...

There are better projectors out there anyway, so you're only waiting to save your own pocketbook. None of these projectors are end all be all, none of them will be. They're always a filler gap. Optoma's HD3300 has gotten stellar reviews in 2D and 3D. To each their own, you know what that means right?

They lost a buyer because they found an issue and wanted to fix it before they shipped to consumers? I'm lost as to where this would lose anyone as a buyer. Most vendors would ship the product as is and deal with the issues later. I say bravo for taking care of it before I get my hands on it.

If possible can we get review on how these 3d projectors work with nvidia or ati 3d gaming. If not could you please at least confirm with nvidia if these projectors will work with pc-3d gaming. I've own Epson now and most likely will be adding the lower end 3d projector as my next choice, their customer service has been outstanding and they have some of the brightest projectors out there.

Someone on AVS already has the Epson 3010!

It's October 11th. So...why are PJCentral and other sites getting the "updated" version of the hardware later this week?

ProjectorPeople.com is shipping 3010 now. 3010E is still not shipping.

Perhaps they finally realiszed that the won't sell that much units without the lensshift. Epson could have a bestseller if they equip the new units with lensshift.

I am still running my Sharp xvz9000u and it still looks looks great after 10 plus years and over 8,000 hours of use. I hope the epson 5010 will give me reason to change. Bring it on!!

I'm frustrated too but does anyone really want to read a review that doesn't match the eventual production units? I'm sure Epson would be sorry to lose your business but think how many customers they lose when a subpar review comes out!

Yes, this isn't the first time they've done this. Why not the Optoma HD3300 instead, then?

At what point do you stop waiting? These PJs are only 1-1.5K in price. How long do you wait? Extend this to other life choices. Would you wait 2 years for them to delay a release? Just exaggerating because it seems like a couple months means nothing to you. There are better PJs out there right now anyway, so what's to wait for. You can only wait for 3D and wireless HDMI, is that worth it.

Thanks, ELmO

They lost a buyer because they fine tuned the product before it became available for retail purchase?

I am really disappointed that the review is pushed back because I have a 5 year old 720P Epson on its second bulb that has gotten very dim. Very ready for a new projector!!!!
