It's turning out to be a busier spring and summer for inexpensive home theater projectors...
Bill just finished up his review of the Optoma HD25-LV, which got posted last night. Those who are trying to sort out the HD25 from the HD25-LV will want to take a look. We received some questions on fan noise, and Bill will be adding a few more comments on fan noise today.
The BenQ W1500 and BenQ W770ST are scheduled to arrive late next week, so if all goes according to plan those will be the next reviews up in the home theater arena.
In the meantime we are working on a generic LCD vs. DLP evaluation. This began as a commentary on the Color Light Output (CLO) specification now being published by several vendors. However, it quickly became evident that CLO cannot be discussed in a vacuum. Though it can be an important factor in picture quality, it is not the only factor that determines ultimate picture quality. The objective of our study will be to put CLO in context, and discuss how it, along with other factors such as contrast and color balance, interact to determine the final image on the screen. This study will include many side by side screen shots illustrating how differently LCD and DLP projectors deal with a variety of different types of subject matter. This study will be published next month.
