BenQ has opened up preorders to the US market for their first 4K ultra-short throw projector, the V7050i (keep an eye out for a ProjectorCentral review soon). The projector uses the latest generation 0.47-inch TI DMD ECD chipset with XPR technology to achieve its 4K (3840x2160) resolution. It uses a single blue laser through a yellow phosphor and color wheel to cover 98% of the DCI-P3 color space. BenQ's CinematicColor allows for fine tuning of color saturation, specific calibration for flesh tones, a super resolution technology called Pixel Enhancer 4K, and 4K motion compensation. BenQ lists the light output of the V7050i at 2,500 ANSI lumens and it has a life of up to 20,000 hours and requires no maintenance.
HDR10 and HLG are both supported. BenQ has included Filmmaker Mode, developed by the UHD Alliance in collaboration with filmmakers, movie studios, and display manufacturers. Selecting the picture mode automatically turns off extra processing like motion interpolation to present the content as it was originally intended. The projector also supports 3D.

The fixed zoom V7050i can project a 100-inch diagonal image from only 8.7 inches away from the wall (the total image range is 70- to 123-inch diagonal and you can see the correct projector distance with the ProjectorCentral V7050i Throw Distance Calculator). To ease in setup, the V7050i comes with two built-in measurement tools (one on each side) with markers showing how far they should be pulled out to set up for different screen sizes.
The top of the unit acts as a lens cover—BenQ refer to it as a sunroof—to protect from dust and retracts when the projector is powered up. There are also eye protection sensors so if someone inadvertently leans over within 30 cm of the lens, the screen dims to protect from eye damage.

For streaming capabilities, the V7050i comes with BenQ's QS01 Android TV streaming stick. The stick requires use of one HDMI and one USB (for power). There are a total of two HDMI 2.0a (one with ARC), three USB (two on the side and one on the back), an optical audio out, and a RS-232 control port.
