Compaq iPAQ MP3800 User Reviews

I purchased this unit used from ebay after first having purchased an earlier model of this projector--the MP1800--which I was very impressed by given the measly $20 it cost me. While impressed by the feature set and quality, the earlier unit made a hell of a lot of noise so I looked at newer models of the same line of projectors and found this MP3800 model on ebay for under $50 so I snatched it. I was astounded by the pristine quality of my unit and especially of the ultra bright image quality. This was a significant upgrade to the MP1800, as this was much smaller and far more refined in its size, construction, and image quality. The remote went from a large thing the size of a foot to a tiny palm sized rectangle that is very slim and lightweight.
Any Problems: Unfortunately, it wasn't even on for 5 minutes before it suddenly turned itself off for the first time while in my possession. I was hoping it was a one-time glitch but it randomly continued to turn itself off, often creating great disruption to what I was doing and in the hassle of getting it to switch back on and stay on. The lamp is now at over 2128 hours and is still beautifully bright and sharp but the constant switching off makes this projector a bad choice for anyone who requires it to be on reliably for any extended length of time without interruption. When it works, it is a great quality, very portable, well designed, remarkably quiet, and satisfying home projector.
Definitely not reliable, easy to carry, but difficult to make it work when the lamp goes over 600 hours, I hope it will manage all the way to 1000, but still it shuts down itself too often now, making strange tortured noises
Any Problems: Shutting itself, bye the 700 hours it does not want even to start working for some time, and I think the cooling fan works not very well and something inside makes strange noises when it doesn't want to start working...
Used two of these and many Infocus models. Compaq/HP unit bright, but color saturation is not good. Easy to use, portable, but not good reliability or service
Any Problems: We have returned for service both of these units 3 or 4 times. (compared to only 2 service calls for the 4 infocus projectors we have). Service was slow and expensive. Also, color saturation was bad -- compared to infocus, nec and epson units the color was the worst but they sure are portable!
It works great, and produces a nice image. However, it is not reliable, and the service from HP is very poor. Just 2 months out of warranty, the light wouldn't come on. After spending some time on the phone, I tried reseating the bulb module at the suggestion of HP. That didn't work. So then they had me send it in, for $89 minimum charge. They charged me another $499 for the service. After that, they mysteriously held on to the projector for another 2 weeks with no explanation, no answers to my queries as to why it was being held. Still waiting to get the $#(*&%@!!! projector back. I will never buy anything HP or compaq again.

I AGREE WITH OTHER OPNIONS. PROJECTOR IS VERY MUCH PROTABLE & EXCELLENT QUALITY IN PICTURE. AS THE LIGHT FROM THE PROJECTOR IS BRIGHT IT DOES WORK VERY WELL IN THE LIGHTED ROOMS. THE REMOTE HELPS ALOT IN CONTROLLING THE PROJECTOR IF ITS ON A CIELING MOUNT. THE PROJECTOR OFFERS EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY AND IS A NICE CHOICE FOR THOSE LOOKINGS FOR QUALITY WIHTOUT FORKING OUT TOO MUCH MONEY.
very nice small compact projector. looks cute and works very well. nice bright image and doesnt really make loud noise like some other projectors. will recommend if ur looking for dlp projector and like something stylish in ur house. an excellent purchase
Any Problems: nope
Very light weight and well constructed. super contrast giving brilliant pictures. good support from HP(compaq) Purchased this item used and We're using for home theater. I can't say enough about DLP over LCD!
Any Problems: none
When it works, it is great. For being ultra portable, it is understandable the unit has limited features that normally comes with a regular portable unit. We are satisfied with the image quality even projecting while lights are on.
Any Problems: Our agency both 16 of these units and they all have the same problem. For the first fifteen minutes of operation, it would keep shutting off itself.
