I purchased the EMP-5000 version of this projector avaliable in England for £120 of eBay last year (2006). despite being ten years old, it still performs well and I have so far encountered no mechanical faults.

Any Problems: Just a few gripes: -Noisy fan -Low picture quality when using a dvd player, so i run dvds from my laptop

I have been using this for over 2 years now and it has been fantastic. The only complaint that I had was the pink spots when there was a pure white backgound. The fan kept running after it had cooled down and it needed to be unplugged after the cooldown. These little annoyances were tolerable because of the great picture. This was my first projector and I will never be without one from now on. I bought this used for $300 and it most likely lasted longer than the 2000 hours that the bulb was rated for.

Any Problems: When the bulb went, it went. Poof and the show was over.

This projector has worked well for most of five years. By now (end of 2004) however there are far better models available, with less weight, higher resolution and brighter picture.

Any Problems: After five years, the image quality is deteriorating. The colors have separated and display several pixels apart, leading to a very poor image [even for the "no input" on a blue field]. There does not appear to be a solution for this in the manual or on the Epson site.

I have the ELP-5000 version of this projector released in Japan. I really liked it, and it had great quality until one day it didn't. The lamp has only 170 hours on it, and I think it's the original, but the picture is now shot with blue ghosting and streaks everywhere. The fan also seems a little noisy to me.

Any Problems: Blue streaking, making the picture lousy. I'd love to learn how to get rid of those ghosts and streaks.

Our school got one of these projectors second hand from a local dealer and it has worked out great! It is very rugged, easy-to-use, and the quality of the picture is excellent for a machine of its specs. Highly recommended.
