LG's Business Solutions unit has announced a replacement for its popular BUT53PST short throw commercial laser projector, the ProBeam BU53RG.

LG BU53RG hero slider

The predecessor BU53PST, reviewed by ProjectorCentral early this year, distinguished itself for extraordinary value among 4K UHD projectors in its 5,000 ANSI lumen brightness class. Along with its 4K resolution and high output, its benefits included a maintenance-free laser+phosphor light engine, HDR compliance, and built-in WiFi with an integrated browser—features not typically seen among pricier competitors.

The updated BU53PST is largely identical cosmetically and internally, offering the same 4K-resolution, single-chip DLP light engine with a 5,000 lumen brightness and 20,000-hour lifespan at full power, all in the same compact and lightweight cabinet that comes in at 6.1 x 14.6 x 11.4-inch (HWD) and 21.4 pounds. The short throw lens is the same with a 0.94-1.14:1 throw ratio facilitated by a 1.2X zoom; it casts an image from 40- to 300-inches diagonal. Setup is further facilitated by generous lens shift (±50% vertical, ±20% horizontal) and onboard geometric correction with up to 25-point warping, plus image flip and rotation facilities. Furthermore, it supports 21:9 and 16:6 widescreen aspect ratios for use with Micrsoft Teams Front Row and similar formats.

What's new here primarily is the inclusion of LG's more advanced webOS 6.0 Signage smart platform, which we first reported on in our review of the BU70QGA, LG's 7,000-lumen flagship business projector. The platform comes with resident applications, such as LG SuperSign content management software, to support content distribution to multiple LG displays including the LG's commercial flat panels. A number of third-party signage apps designed to work with LG's OS are also available for download.

LG probeam bu53rg connections

Connectivity includes a pair of HDMI ports as well as an RJ45 network/HDBaseT port for digital signal and control, plus MiraCast wireless screen sharing. A pair of USB-A ports support plug-and-play content. Audio is supplied by a pair of integrated 5W speakers, with connection for outboard systems via HDMI ARC and a 3.5mm stereo analog output. RS232C in and out are also provided.

The LG ProBeam BU53RG is shipping now, at the MSRP and street price of $3,799, about $200 less than the BU53PST sold for at its initial run.
