I have owned several projectors and just picked up a VP-12S1 by Marantz paid 4,900USD for a refurbished model, came in brand new condition. This projector knocked my socks off. I previously owned a NEC HT1000, 13HD and Sharp 9000. This projector, hands down, produced the most satisfying and brilliant picture- even with a 480i source because the video processing is absolutely amazing. I project onto a 100 inch HC 16X9 screen! Also this projector is dead silent, has zero light leakage, and vertical lense shift for easy installation.

Any Problems: None and I have put over 400 hours on this projector.

Easy to hook up. Very sharp picture. Manual is awful. There is no explanation of what to use various modes for. For example, what is "Theater" versus "Standard" setting?

Any Problems: While watching a movie, the Marantz "dims down" a notch, then "brigthens up" a notch.

The absolute best DLP projector on the market today (check out AVS Forum at and you'll see what I mean). If you want a home theater projector that is top notch right out of the box, get the Marantz!

I have to ademit to have been scred off by some negative reviews after I committed the cash. Thankfully, no problems......and most importantly, no dead pixels!! Image is simply delightful. Better than I expected. It still has the slightly "dispassionate" digital image. In that sense, on a scale of 1 to 100, it perhpas sits 5 points behind the best CRT's, but it picks up points in terms of colour saturation. As long as reliability hangs in there, I reckon I'll be happy with this unit for years rather than months.

Any Problems: None to date.

Fantastic in every respect, excellent picture quality in terms of colors, resolution and great black level. The fan noise is very low and hardly audible at all when watching a movie. I'm very impressed, even when I did a side-by-side comparison with Yamaha DPX1. Any old DLP-flaw is invisible on this projector (no visible rainbow effect etc). I would recommend this as the best non-CRT projector currently available for home theater use and very good value for money. Did I mention the picture quality is amazing?

Any Problems: None, excellent set-up features and every type of connection imaginable is avaliable, including fire-wire direct connection for DV cameras. Great size and shape, easy to install.
