I posted my opinion of these great projectors almost 4 1/2 years ago. The oldest unit is 11 years old and still running (3rd lamp) I retired the middle unit to my parents home theater and they are more than happy with 720p on a 100 inch screen. I have 2 4500+ lumen projectors but sill run these as well. They may be retired as soon as a led/laser hybrid with a short through lens comes out...
Any Problems: Lamps are still around $350 ( list was $750 from 1999) Needs a good cleaning each year of all filters, screens and make sure lamp compartment is clean. Not much has the built quality of these units anymore. One unit survived rain another an exploding lens before I fixed it. Does HD before there was HD.
This projector has provin to be one of our best workhorse projectors for the last 6 years! we Purchased one in '99 and were so impressed we bought a 2nd! We now have 3 units and it still is one of the best beating out most of the newer higher lumen projectors that have come out resently. The Power and flexiblity of these "light canons" from Mitsubishi work flawlessly night after night. Lamps are availible relitively cheap and after 6 years most are still on there 2nd lamp! They are stackable for up to 6000 lumens and the contrast ratio when stacked is simply amazing! No washed out images just bright as the sun! We resently purchased an infocus 4500 lumen projector that looks great and is bright as the 2 mits stacked. Excellent menu system easy to use.
Any Problems: No lens shift. Lens not interchangable - later added to the x490 & x500 models. Video is excellent - only issues have been if power is "dirty" video upscaling suffers. Alway use this unit and the source equipment with quality voltage regulators and power conditioner and you will never be disappointed!
Very good image and colours. The contrast could be better. I use it very much for home cinema and PlayStsation2 gaming.
Any Problems: I have it for 2 years, no problems so far and same lamp.
