Good lens, low noise level, plenty enough light for small darkened room, ok black level. Overall: Nice unit if you are not allergic to rainbow effect.
Any Problems: None.
The overall picture quality was good if the default settings were not touched. I found that using any of the features designed to improve the picture was a bad thing. Pure Motion made some scenes, especially slow panning, quite jerky whereas they had been OK with Pure Motion turned off. The Dynamic Iris (designed to improve contrast) could be heard ticking away as it opened and closed (this was distracting).
Any Problems: The main problem I experienced was using the Pure Shift function. My projector is ceiling mounted and the top of my screen is only nine inches (22.5cm) from the ceiling and the only reason I chose the HD82 was so that I could get the picture in the right place without keystone. As it turned out, when I got everything set correctly, the bottom of the picture curved down. It wasn't a straight line (as you would get if the alignment was wrong) - it went along horizontally two thirds of the way along and then dog legged down. Although the distortion was only about half an inch, my eyes kept being drawn to it. After six months of Optima not wanting to know about it, they finally replaced the unit. The new one does axactly the same so I assume it is a problem with the lens. Photos available if proof required.
