Hi, i'm PJ road warrior. Purchased this cs1 in 2002 in Europa, brand new. it has now 1367hrs on the first lamp. When i do "Cinema-rural" down here in Argentina the cs1 goes with me, lots of dust and bad roads. I have to clean the unit often, disasembling the PJ to get the the lcds, lamp optics etc clean, the filters are made for home/office use i guess. Anyway, it still works great in a dark room or at night open-air(hey, 600 ansi aren't 2500). No "tinted image" problems found yet, other then the ones caused by dust on the lcds. cross fingers.

Any Problems: "enter" and "Power-off" buttons sometimes do not work the first time, have to press them firmly and they react. Dust filters are very coarse. No adjustable feets, very akward.

I had posted before. I would like to add that I'm starting to see the blue tint at the bottom of my screen and I'm near 1300 hours. The bottom 5% has a blue tint when the screen is solid black. I can't see the blue tint while there is a picture in this area.

Purchased my unit in 1999 brand new. No problems so far and I have hauled it all over the country for work. Nice, light, and works easily with any computer or situation.

This is my first projector and has worked very well over the last 4 years. I'm still on my original bulb (~1200 hours). I have not seen the blue tint others have talked about. Overall great expirience with my model.

Any Problems: I have encoutered a couple bothersome hardware problems. The video-in hardware piece did not hold up for long. It is very loose and takes alot of figitting to get the video signal to read. Luckily I have moved onto S-video so it's no longer a problem. The stand small stand in the back broke within a month of owning it, so I have to prop it up with books.

Any Problems: bluishness .. it keeps growing.. Im not sure whether its the lamp or the panels.. but it resulted from normal use.. now the projector is useless...

Got one used and worked great for about 1 year. Then the infamous blueness began. You can get this model for cheap but I would not recommend it. It won't last long.

Any Problems: The blue problem occurred for me, like most others. A blue haze began at the bottom of the image and has been creeping up the screen for the past few months.

A very late review of my VPL-CS1, but none the less.. Same problem occured for me as for many others, the blueish sensation which "burned in" the menus and stills, and cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost. Sony doesn't even care, as the model has been discontinued. However, I cleaned it throughout with canned air and some of the problems disappeared, but the annoying blueish screen is still there.

Very good projector, small, portable, a but noisy. BUT the screen turned blueish after 3 years, within the life of the first lamp!

It always worked with any computer without problem. However, well within the life of the first lamp it went blue and became virtually useless - same experience with Sony as other writer - they are not interested

Great "starter" projector until you are ready to go permanent. Great image and ultra-small.

Any Problems: Would like the unit to be able to "cut off" areas of screen (ie when showing 16:9 instead of blank bands).

Not compatible with several Notebook, can't auto adjust. can;t be detect by several type of notebook.

Any Problems: Distortion on screen, yellow color, sometimes only blue..

The projector is fine and easy to use BUT beware of the blueish problem.

Any Problems: After just over one year and approx. 1000 hours of usage the picture started turning blue-ish and to repair it actually costs more than a new projector. I CANNOT recommend this projector which I had hoped to last at LEAST 3 years.

WARNING .... Immediately after warranty period the unit started showing increasingly blueish pictures. Went to Sony and they said "too bad". It basically "fried" it's LCD in normal usage and from what I've heard from others they seem to have the same problem too. So BEWARE, this model has a tendency to "self destruct" and the replacement LCD cost as much as a new projector would. Thanks Sony. Keep up the good work.

The best relation quality-price and size-quality, specially for a portable projector. Best quality of image even if the room is not completely dark

Any Problems: None

I am using the projector for home-theater for about 3 months now. When i was looking for a projector and saw this device i read the specs and they were not that great compared to the newer projectors. But when i SAW the picture that it produced! WOW, This projector has great colors, and lots of settings to play with. One of the features is the 16:9 mode, this really works great. Then there is the sound it produces when cooling the unit, if you are close to the projector it can be heared quite good, so don't sit next to it. Then there is the weight and size of the unit, it is about the size of a A4 sheet of parper and weighs about 2.9Kg, this is a big advantage over some other projectors, because if you are not able to have a permanent home cinema, you need to move the projector every time after watching a movie (in my case). The menu is also very easy to access and use. If you use this projector (or any other), make sure the room is almost *completly* dark! because then you will get the best picture and contrast. My opinion is that this device offers great value for money!. However there are some things that could be improved by sony. - Ceiling mount - Two-way keystone - Ability to 'flip' the screen Marcello.
