got this projector at a second hand shop for only AUD 329.00. after looking at the original price, its a big bonus for me. appearance, not a scratch and lamp used for 190hrs. have viewed 5 movies in a row with no problem while attached to my home theatre sound system. Indeed a big bonus. :):)

This is an excellent LCD projector for HomeTheater, don´t hesitate between DLP or LCD, buy an XGA-2000 AnsiLumen LCD projector!! The DLP system have the very visible rainbow effect, only the expensive 3chip DLP projection system is better that a projector like the SONY VPL-CX5. It´s an excellent choice for a your Home Theatre.

Picture quality is excellent, but the HS10 is better due to 3d gamma per position. Technicaly this unit has minor problems in design. Unit has the same design as the cs5, but better LCD prism and feature. Have same technical problems as the cs5.

Any Problems: This type of model CX5, CS5 have some problems and one is a major. It can be corrected if you sent it to Sony.

This baby is the best projector I have ever seen in my life. I just got it (Feb. 2003) and there is nothing that comes even close. Its great for presentation. Superb for homeuse. Its NOT noisy like some reviews say. 36DB on "low" 1800 is not much. Its so damn clear and its perfect for watching movies, playing games - whatever. The best general use projector I have come across. All resolutions looks super cool - even high ones (1200x1024). I simply dont have any complains. Its worth every dime. It looks damn cool. Shows pictures beyound belief. I have played PS2, several pc-games on it. Its to die for. Especially when playing in the night. I can only say: "Wow!" Love - Heinrich (And im not from Sony or anything. Just totally blasted by the thing. It so much improves movies, gaming, television and ofcourse - presentations).

I like it alot! Excellent quality and not too noisy either on "low lamp mode".

Any Problems: so far so good...

Image is as good as any LCD projector I've seen but compared to a decent DLP it pales in comparison. Then again that's comparing apples to oranges. Taken on its own merits, it's a great unit and for the price I don't think you can find a better LCD projector.

Image is great, very bright. We did a side by side comparison of this unit compared to the NEC VT540, LT157 and the popular Panasonic AE100 and I must say that this unit produced the superior image. I have also been informed from another source that the image is consistent with the Sony 12HT, which is double the price. That should speak wonders for this little unit since the 12HT is the standard by which LCD projectors are measured, for home theatre use anyway. I haven't tested it's data capabilities yet but I'm sure that it would also be more than capable. A great little machine which we would hear more about in the next few months.

Any Problems: A minor gripe would be the lack of HD support, but that's not an issue to most people - hey at this price and for what it delivers there has to be a short coming somewhere. I have yet to see another LCD projector below $10k AUD that stacks up to the CX5.

A great LCD projector and comparable (if more better) than the more expensive models. 2000 lumens is nothing to be coffed at (1800 on economy mode, which also lowers the fan noise). Color reproduction is great, although blacks do suffer from the same fate as other LCD projectors (although a lot better than some others which I've seen). I find the automatic keystoning a cool feature and the highly intuitive design makes it an attractive piece of furniture. I'm also impressed by the way it handles console gaming since most other LCD projectors I've seen don't have the brightness, resolution, or contrast to show games in "television" detail. This little baby does the lot plus it's great looking too. For the price there is nothing in its class.

Any Problems: Lack of HD support and progressive scan support hurt this unit, but that's not important to me since I run DVD's through my PC anyway. Also the lack of video inputs (one s-video, one vga, one video) also is a bit of a bummer.
