I replaced my Sony G70 crt projector with the Yamaha DPX-1200. Even though I have owned CRT projectors for many years this Yamaha is superior to any of them except in absolute on-off contrast. However, on any other parameter you care to name - geometry; uniformity; stability; colour; etc., it is better and, because intraframe contrast is so very much better, in practice the look of the image is also overall better than the G70. The flexibility of the colour space is superb and I have three separate memories set up for SMPTE; Rec 6100 and Rec. 7900. The very low sound level (48dB) from the fan is also excellent compared with the G70. I use the projector with a Crystalio scaler at 720p for all material via SDI in and HDMI out.

Any Problems: None.

Just viewed this projector. Have spent countless hours over the last few months looking for a replacement for my NEC1000. During this time I saw the Dreamweaver Plus, the Infocus 7210, the Runco 710lt and the Marantz 12S4. While they were all better than the NEC the diffrerence was not substantial enough to get me to buy one. I spent the last hour looking at the Yamaha 1200. It was truly amazing and considerably better than any of the others I saw. The picture seemed to jump out at you and the contrast was the best I've seen. I bought it on the spot.

Any Problems: Just purchased

Not fully setup as I am awaiting the projector mounts so that I can mount it on the ceiling and get the full screen (106" diagnal). Currently have it setup on the table and watching ~90" diagnal. The picture is just perfect and life like. The projector is quite compared to my old behometh Vidikron Epoch D-600 that finally died on me (after 5 years). The sharpness of the pictures is excellent compared to other projectors and I believe it is because of the lens they use. I compared it with Optoma 79 and Infocus 7210.

Any Problems: Saw noise from HDMI input but then I was using a connector to connect from DVI to HDMI, as it went away when I used to the component video. No problems so far. Will update once I have it mounted on the ceiling and having watched few movies and getting feedback from my very critical friends.

I reviewed many projectors in this class. This projector was outstanding in contrast, image quality and that subjective film like feel. I have no regrets.

Any Problems: none
