When I first saw Godfather I was surprised how brown toned and un-sharp it looked - and that was in the theater during its first run! Then I realized that was what the director wanted, to make the wedding look like an old home movie shot in the forties and dug out of the back of the closet. Later in the show I noted it seemed clearer and the color was right, even though I couldn't remember when it changed or if it was just that I got used to the tone. I have seen it several times on TV and was disappointed it didn't seem to have the same brown tone at the beginning, so I wonder if the networks 'corrected' it.
