3D has a future in theatrical motion pictures and live sports if it is done correctly. The greatest detriment to the growth of 3D has been poor planning and execution. Directors and Directors of Photography are still developing the skill set needed to make 3D more than just another special effect. I see 3D maturing just as convincing computer graphics has over the yaers. On the presentation side, 3D without glasses is definitely on the way. The M.I.T. Media Lab has an interesting approach using multiple sandwiched, backlit LCD screens. No doubt, 3D without the need for the wearing of glasses will hasten acceptance.
