The Twenty Smallest Portable XGA Projectors

Sony VPL-PX1

At 8.8 lbs, and 524 cu.in., the PX1 is the heaviest and largest of the twenty projectors in this review. Though it is a bright 1000 ANSI lumens, there are several projectors in this group that are rated at 1000 ANSI lumens or more, and are lighter, smaller, and less expensive.

Unfortunately, the PX1 does not have any unique performance advantages that would make up for its heft. And at a current street price of $5,700, it is a very poor value for the money.

Sony has made some dramatic moves lately. The VPL-VW10HT looks like a dynamite product for home theater. And the VPL-CS1 Superlite has set a new price/performance standard in mobile SVGA projectors. However, we are still waiting for a strong move from Sony in the mobile XGA category. Meanwhile, the PX1 is ready to be put out to pasture.
