The Occupy Illuminator is Alive and Well
With all eyes on New York City as world leaders met at the UN, protesters lit up the exterior wall of Bobst at NYU with images and messages that could not be ignored.
They were joined by The Illuminator crew to increase their impact as they shared their public message opposing war, sanctions and state repression. Enormous projections could be seen at Union Square, around Washington Square Park, and on the facade of the historic Flatiron Building. Earlier in the day Havaar,a grassroots group of Iranians, Iranian-Americans and allies was joined by others to demonstrate in midtown New York against what they perceive as Presidents Ahmadinejad and Obama, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s collective aggression towards the Iranian people.
The Illuminator , the Occupy movement's harbinger of mobile guerrilla light projection struck again using the power of projection to bring light to a message that might have otherwise languished in darkness. Once again we see projectors assuming a powerful role in the 21st Century world.
