What's one way to show your wares without taking up space to store them? Employ the services of a good 3D projection mapper. I can't stop thinking about all the possibilities for projectors and creative projection mapping in the retail arena. This video, however comes from a trade show environment where dollars and opportunity make it critical to look big in the smallest space possible.

We've been keeping an eye on developments in the world of 3D printing for the last couple of years. The subject is getting a lot of attention recently because 3D printing is now cheaper and more efficient and there are whole lot more players in the market. Of course, aside from the fact that 3D printing could have complete and utter game changing impact on our entire consumer culture, our interest for this post lies in the technology's innards which include DLP projection.more

I hope to see more of these festivals all over the world. The Screen City Festival is taking place later this month (October 25th – 27th 2013.) in Stavanger/Sandnes Norway. The whole concept comes from an attempt to study the moving image presented in public spaces, on the city`s facades, shop windows and urban venues in order take Stavanger out of its urban context through the vehicle of media art.more

Roger Waters' "The Wall Live" Concert tour is winding down after 27 performances across Europe. In this brief video, the co-founder of Pink Floyd, expresses his excitement over where projection technology was back in the 1970's (when he started touring) and the magnificent heights it is reaching now.more

There is not much to share about this delightful display of 3D projection mapping in the arts sphere other than it comes from the Stavanger Concert Hall in Norway where Mozart's Magic Flute was performed last September. Technicians used Motion Graphics with Adobe After Effects and modeling and Softimage XSI for the 3D modeling and animation.

In short, this video is just cool. Viewers get to see how 3D projection mapping techniques give life to inanimate objects. A world is created from a stone cast of a human male bust.

Kickstarter has become one of my favorite sites to visit as recently I've uncovered quite a few projector-related projects in search of funding. The latest is the HOLHO. Due to the innovative optical illusion it creates, the HOLHO can transform all the pictures and videos on Smartphones and Tablets into holograms. Users get a 3D holographic picture from the HOLHO which sits on top or under the smart device's screen.more

This work by Italy's Luca Agnani Digital lighting, 3D & Visual Mapping artist touched my soul. He has taken the works of Vincent Van Gogh and breathed a special kind of air into them that brings them off the canvas and into life. You can see the town awaken and feel you are a participant rather than an observer.

Studying the human anatomy in a classroom can be excruciatingly dull. I wish I could turn back the clock, return to my hopeless high school and college biology classes and infuse them with a little 3D projection mapping. When the body's systems come alive the impression is a lasting one.

There is some great stuff coming out of St Petersburg. This is the second 3D projection mapping example I've seen in the last couple of days produced by Russia's Illuminarium3000. It is not simply that I was drawn to their idea of creating an architectural form out of a human face;it is how ably they convey the truths about the masks we wear and the nature of the human psyche through a very impressive projection mapping installation.
