News and Updates
February 5, 2004
Hi folks,
Updating the issue pertaining to the color correcting filter on the HS20...... Sony does offer an optional light magenta filter for the HS20. The part number is 4-091-845-01, and it can be ordered domestically from Sony at 1-800-488-7669. The review of the Sony HS20 has been updated to reflect this data. We attempted to call the Sony Parts and Service center for a price on the filter, but that facility is closed today due to winter storm activity.
My apology for the confusion. Since Sony included the filter with the review sample we mistakenly assumed it came standard with the unit. Thanks to those of you who wrote to let us know otherwise. Our overall assessment of the HS20 does not change, and we continue to recommend use of the cinema filter for videophile-type use in a dark viewing environment.
Among the most common questions we get is "which screen should I use?" "Is A better than B?" "Are they worth the money?" In order to provide our readers with the best information possible we have initiated a major screen review that will evaluate relative performance of both white and high contrast (gray) screens from the major suppliers in the market today. This will be an extensive review and commentary on screen technology to be published later this spring. I won't predict a publication date until we get closer to completion, but I wanted to give you a heads-up that we are working on this very important topic. Our objective will be to make it easy for you to evaluate the benefits of each product and make informed decisions for your home theater.
