Home Theater Projectors
News and Updates

February 25, 2004

Hi folks,

The brightest widescreen projector yet is the 4000 ANSI lumen Sanyo PLV-WF10, which just started shipping a few weeks ago. The review has just been posted. This unit was particularly fun to review as it delivers a brilliant image that is thoroughly engaging. However, the WF10 is a big machine, weighing almost 50 lbs. It is a large venue machine that is not intended for the home theater market. But it does deliver a gorgeous video image, and there will undoubtedly be some consumers with an extra big theater space who will want it precisely for its industrial strength lumen output. Put it behind a false wall to kill the fan noise, and you will end up with a killer image on a 15-foot diagonal screen. True to Sanyo's tradition, this is another unique machine that addresses a lucrative niche which has been entirely ignored by the rest of the industry.

As noted earlier on this page, we have commenced a major screen review that will evaluate relative performance of both white and high contrast (gray) screens from the major suppliers in the market today. All of the products scheduled for review are now in house, and the review will include products from Stewart, Da-lite, Draper, Vutec, and Carada. This will be a comprehensive multi-product review, so it will take some time to put together. We are expecting to get this done by the end of March. Our objective will be to make it easy for you to evaluate the benefits of each screen product and make informed decisions for your home theater.

We intend to do one or more projector reviews in tandem with the screen evaluation during March. We will give you more info on those as we can.

As a final note, we ran a special promotion of the Bravo D1 DVI-enabled DVD player in December. The response was terrific. So we have decided to reactivate that program for the time being. The DVD player is only $199, but you will get a 10% discount off that price by ordering with the special promotional code offered here. You get a great price on a fine DVD player, and support ProjectorCentral at the same time.

Thanks very kindly for your use of ProjectorCentral,

Evan Powell
