Hi folks,

We are still working on the review of the Studio Experience Premier 50HD. I was hoping to get it up by today, but it's not quite complete. It will be up after the holiday weekend.

We had a preliminary look at the unique new NEC WT600, which is a lensless projector that throws a large image from an extremely short distance. This is a whole new concept in projector design. Believe it or not, a 100" diagonal image is achieved from a throw distance of two feet. The projector is positioned either below or ceiling mounted above the screen and projects either up or down at a radically oblique angle. The objective of this projector's design is to allow you to stage a presentation without ever needing to walk between the projector and the image.

Due to the WT600's specs (1500 ANSI lumens, 3000:1 contrast, XGA resolution), we are already getting email asking about its suitability for home theater. We did not have time to perform a formal review on it--we will do so in the near future when we can get some more time with it. Our initial observations were that it produces overall beautiful video. In eco-mode the fan noise was close to zero. However it has some installation limitations. It cannot produce an image larger than 100" diagonal without going out of focus. And for any desired image size, the projector must be placed with precision both vertically in relation to the screen, and at an exact distance to achieve the desired image size. The radical angle at which the light strikes the screen changes the ballgame on which screen materials you'd want to use. We will get into all of this in more detail once we can prepare a more detailed review.

Yes, we still plan to review the Optoma H76. The company has not decommited the product--it is just delayed due to production glitches. This is not the first time nor will it be the last that a new product is delayed in shipment. We will schedule the review when the product is ready for release.

Thanks for using ProjectorCentral,
