NEC Technologies Defines Compact HLO Category: Sets The Stage For New High Brightness Projector

Press Release  |  Jul 27, 1999

ITASCA, Ill., July 27, 1999 -- Defining the parameters of a new mid-to large venue projector category, NEC Technologies' Visual Systems Division today announced the unveiling of its exclusive "Compact High Light Output" (HLO™) system. Designed for the large screen rental, staging and permanent installation markets, the MultiSync® XT5000™, formerly known as the "T5," is the world's first Compact HLO projector.

According the Gary Kayye, principal, Kayye Consulting in Chapel Hill, N.C., NEC's creation of the Compact HLO category opens up a new era of projector opportunities for mid-to-large sized venues. "Rental, staging and installation companies that have traditionally looked to a wide range of vendors to supply expensive and heavy large screen projectors can now incorporate a Compact HLO system to meet customer needs every day of the week."

The Compact HLO category encompasses feature specifications such as a projector weight of 100 lbs., a 400:1 contrast ratio, image brightness of 4,500+, operational simplicity, as well as freestanding stackability for redundancy and full high light output even at 120 volts. The MultiSync XT5000 is the only projector that meets all these standards at one-fifth the volume, one-third the weight and a more affordable price than competitive high light output projection systems currently available.

The first in a series of NEC Compact HLO products to be introduced, the MultiSync XT5000, is expected to fill the need for large-screen projectors in the broadest range of applications including arenas, auditoriums, concert halls, theme parks, classrooms, boardrooms, electronic cinemas, gaming venues, malls or virtually anywhere images are viewed by audiences.

"The advanced features of the MultiSync XT5000, combined with NEC's unmatched service and support program, make it the most unique high light output product package offered to the industry," said Michael Santiago, director of marketing for NEC Technologies. "The HLO product series further validates NEC's solid positioning as the manufacturer of choice for the most complete line of visual presentation systems."

Small System Delivers Large Benefits

The MultiSync XT5000 utilizes NEC's exclusive LiteNgine™ technology system (original optics, electronics and image processing), combined with Texas Instrument's 3-chip Digital Light Processing (DLP™), to yield enhanced image performance, as well as increased compatibility and versatility. Primary differentiating features of the MultiSync XT5000 include:

Service and Support: NEC Technologies has set the standard for service and support for all its projectors. The MultiSync XT5000 will come standard with an industry-leading package for coverage day and night.

Unmatched Picture Quality: The MultiSync XT5000 boasts an impressive 400:1 full on/off and 250:1 ANSI contrast ratio along with Dynamic Gamma Correction (DGC) for film-like quality in reproducing the finest details throughout the entire grayscale range.

Full Light Output: 120 volts at a full 4,500 ANSI lumens can be maintained, offering users the flexibility of plugging the MultiSync XT5000 into any standard commercial power outlet, saving time and money by not requiring special electrical services.

Stackability/Redundancy: The new projector can be double or even triple stacked without an external frame, producing ultra-bright images of 9,000 or 13,500 ANSI lumens and built-in redundancy. This ease-of-use feature, combined with the light weight and compact design of the new projector, significantly reduces set-up time and complications.

Digital Connection Interface: The MultiSync XT5000 is the first high light output projector to have PanelLink™ digital connection interface. The simple digital-to-digital connection offers the cleanest, artifact-free computer connection possible. D1 serial digital interface is also available.

Telecine Detection: Built-in telecine detection enables 3:2 pull-down correction with no external processing necessary, eliminating jitter and artifacts to allow for original film source motion quality.

Computer/Video Compatability: The MultiSync XT5000 offers tremendous installation flexibility due to its compatibility with computer signals up to 1280 x 1024 and video standards including NTSC, PAL, SECAM, Y/C, DVD, RGB and 1080I, 720p and 480p HDTV. NEC's AutoSense™ technology automatically adjusts and optimizes incoming computer and video signals to help further increase operational simplicity.

The MultiSync XT5000 projector will begin shipping in October at a price yet to be determined. The projector will be available through authorized rental, staging, corporate and ProAV integrators.
