Wavien and Texas Instruments Announce Technology for Longer Life Projectors

Press Release  |  Jun 12, 2009

Extends lamp life three times and reduces maintenance downtime

VALENCIA, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Wavien, Inc. announce plans today to introduce Wavien's proprietary Dual Paraboloid Reflector (DPR(R)) technology. Wavien, Inc. and Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE:TXN) DLP(R) Products will co-promote the DPR technology for the front projector market. Wavien's DPR technology extends the operating lifetime of standard arc lamps by over three times, reducing the frequency and cost of lamp replacement as well as significantly reducing maintenance downtime. The DPR system can be used with all standard arc lamps and traditional or advanced drivers including Brilliant Color pulse drive technology.

"Wavien's DPR technology offers a longer lifetime, significantly improved and maintained brightness, and higher efficiency in projection applications when used with OSRAM P-VIP(R) or Phoenix SHP lamps, and lamps from other qualified vendors." stated Dr. Kenneth Li, President and CEO of Wavien, Inc., who is also the inventor of the DPR technology. Dr. Li added: "This unique patented design enables a significant reduction in the cost of projector operation, which is especially important in classrooms where projector usage is very high. We are very excited to have the support of Texas Instruments DLP in promoting DPR technology."

The collaborative effort will concentrate initially on the rapidly growing market for projectors designed for educational use, including K-12 and higher education environments. The educational market is heavily burdened by frequent and costly projector maintenance, due to high usage requirements and dependence on reliable front projectors. Utilization of Wavien's DPR technology will bring about a reduction in projector maintenance and the total cost of projector ownership, and enable the design of a new generation of "low maintenance" and "maintenance free" projectors.

"At Texas Instruments DLP, we strive to partner with companies that are looking at innovative methods to extend the life of projector lamps and reduce the total cost of ownership for consumers," said Roger Carver, manager DLP Front Projection at Texas Instruments. "We are delighted with the extended lamp life achieved with Wavien's DPR technology and look forward to working with Wavien and our customers to bring DPR-powered projectors into the marketplace soon."
