Press Release  |  Jun 16, 2000

Anaheim, CA -- Samsung Electronics America, Inc., will officially announce the expansion of their product line into the professional video display market, with a full line of HDTV video format displays at INFOCOMM International 2000, June 15-17. Samsung's line ranges from TFT LCD Monitors, Rear Projection Monitors and Videowall Cubes to Plasma Displays. INFOCOMM 2000, a showcase of breaking visual and audio communications technology, is the perfect time to highlight Samsung's entrance in to the professional video market. Samsung will be at Booth #2875, showcasing HDTV format displays and projection devices based on Ferro-electric Liquid Crystal Displays (f)LCD with Samsung's patented Reflective Light Drive optical engine. The display products will range from Plasma to TFT LCD.

The key to Samsung's entrance is high definition format compatibility, which includes 1080I, 720p and 480p native resolutions with 16:9 aspect ratio.

Samsung will leverage is leadership in Flat Panel Display (FPD) manufacturing by offering a range of FPD technologies. Among these is the (f)LCD (ferro-electric LCD), a reflective device developed by DisplayTech Incorporated. The (f)LCD combined with Samsung's highly efficient, patented optical system allow for high resolution, lightweight and thin footprint design of rear projection displays and video walls. Samsung is the first manufacturer to successfully commercialize an (f)LCD based product.

Samsung has lead the FPD industry in TFT display manufacturing and is now introducing a 24" wide UXGA component for it's initial monitor product. Also, coming from its manufacturing lines are a range of PLASMA displays in 37", 42" and 50" products.

Samsung's extensive experience in Digital TV development will help position them as a prominent leader of high definition products in the professional market. Samsung, familiar with professional products in Korea, sold the Broadcast Industry's first HDTV Integrated Receiver Decoder in the US in October '98 - now in its second generation and currently sold by partner Harris Corporation as the ARX-H200. Samsung's accomplishments in the consumer market include the launch of the market's first integrated HDTV set in November '98 and the launch of an DTV Set-top box for receiving terrestrial DTV signals.

Samsung products to be displayed at INFOCOMM 2000:

  • Samsung's 24" TFT LCD monitor boasting HDTV compatibility and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 (wide UXGA) with five independent inputs (data and video) and stunning picture quality. This 24" TFT monitor has 16:10 "wide" aspect ratio. This flagship product is planned to ship early Q4 at an as-yet-to-be-determined list price.
  • HDTV, 16:9, XGA compatible video wall cubes utilizing Samsung's patented (f)LCD optical system, will also make a prominent statement at the Samsung booth. Building on Samsung's experience in HDTV development, these video wall cubes are driven by a native 720P (1280 x 720) (f)LCD system, compatible with all 18 ATSC approved DTV formats as well as VGA-XGA computer resolutions. Among the many unique features of this groundbreaking product is a built-in image processor, eliminating the need for an external video splitter/processor to deliver the "Big Picture." Available within Q3, users will have the option of a 43" or 50" model.
  • Among the long roster of new products will also be Samsung Stackable Rear projection products in the 43" and 50" size. Both of which boast elegant design, unbeatable picture quality, thin profile (16") and low weight (60 lbs).
  • A full line of plasma displays, developed by Samsung's component subsidiary, Samsung Display Incorporated, is proof of Samsung's commitment to becoming a true leader in the display market. Displaying a full line, Samsung will have 37", 42" and 50" models. The 42" to ship within Q3, 50" Q1 00'.

Samsung, already a world leader in TFT LCD manufacturing, is poised to be a leader in the professional market.
