BARCO Chosen as Preferred Solutions Provider for Prestigious Discover Magazine Technological Innovation Awards Ceremony

Press Release  |  Jun 23, 2000

BARCO to display brilliant images at Discover Magazine Awards Ceremony at EPCOT

Atlanta, GA - BARCO has been selected to provide high performance large screen projection systems for the Discover Magazine Awards ceremony, which will take place at the EPCOT Center in Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida on Saturday June 24, 2000. The celebration will be held in a theater located at the Exxon Universe Energy Pavilion. The Discover Magazine Awards for Technological Innovation program, now in its eleventh year, recognizes breakthrough technologies and honors men and women whose creative genius improves the world's quality of life. BARCO will provide four of its ELM R12 Extreme Light Machine projectors for the event featuring DLPä Technology from Texas Instruments. Two double-stacked projectors will deliver an amazing 24,000 ANSI lumen onto the 20' x 27' main screen, and two additional projectors will be used for two side stage screens.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have been introduced to BARCO through Texas Instruments. The DLPä technology from Texas Instruments was a finalist in the Sight Category during the 1995 Discovery Awards, and now, only a few years later, we are excited to have the opportunity to use the DLPä technology based BARCO projectors for this event," said Darlene Cavalier, Director of the Discovery Magazine Awards Program. "We are confident that the projectors will be an exciting addition to the Awards Ceremony."

BARCO's ELM R12 projector combines exceptional light output (12,000 ANSI lumen) with very high resolution (1280 x 1024 pixels) to meet and exceed the needs of the most demanding rental and staging applications. A wide range of special features, such as a rugged steel frame, integrated rigging and stacking system and advanced modular architecture, make the unit perfectly suited for the rental and staging applications. BARCO's ELM R12 projectors can be equipped with an optional CLO (Constant Light Output) feature, which monitors power to the lamp and provides more constant light output over the life of the lamp.

"We are extremely excited to have been chosen for such a prestigious event," said Lee Wolloff, Eastern US Sales Manager, Rental and Staging for BARCO, "The audience at the Discovery Awards is really going to be impressed with the rich image quality and extreme brilliance of our ELM series projectors."

BARCO's ELM Series projectors are based on an innovative "platform" concept that allows users to upgrade projector components as the technology evolves without the need of purchasing an entire new projector. The units are equipped with high resolution Digital Light Processingä (DLPä) technology from Texas Instruments. BARCO introduced its ELM G10 and ELM R12 high performance projectors only one year ago. Since this time, these units have quickly become the reference standard for rental and staging applications thanks to their extreme brilliance, exceptional video performance and remarkable ease-of-use.
