BARCO Introduces Portable Polysilicon LCD Projection System

Press Release  |  Apr 10, 2000

BarcoGraphics 4000 is BARCO’s new high performance entry-level polysilicon LCD projection system

BARCO, a leading manufacturer of video and graphics display technology, has introduced its first portable LCD projector for presentation applications: the BarcoGraphics 4000. High brightness, extreme ease-of-use and outstanding reliability are just three of the features, that make this projector ideal for dynamic visual presentations.

Thanks to an efficient lamp design, the BarcoGraphics 4000 delivers a high light output of 2,200 ANSI lumen. At the heart of this projector is a unique dual lamp system with two 160 Watt UHM lamps. This technology delivers the power of two high-intensity light sources through a high precision prism, and it adds an improved light integrator system. "This dual lamp system combines unsurpassed brightness with outstanding reliability," said Johan Stockman, Product Group Manager for BARCO's Corporate Product Group. "By maximizing light efficiency, this system assures the perfect brightness in all lighting conditions. Operation in single lamp mode doubles the aggregate lamp life of the projector to 4000 hours, which increases the reliability of the system."

Featuring ultra-high aperture ratio 1.3" XGA-poly-silicon LCD panels with Micro Lens Arrays (MLA), the BarcoGraphics 4000 displays all sources from VHS video to the latest HDTV formats to high-resolution workstations with resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 pixels. An Intelligent Image Resizing system assures smooth outlines and outstanding picture definition with all types of images.

The BarcoGraphics 4000 is equipped with a gamma correction circuitry that optimizes the non-linear imaging characteristics of the panels. This circuitry delivers naturally vibrant colors with smooth shading and image gradation. A three-dimensional adaptive comb filter results in a crisper, clearer image.

The BarcoGraphics 4000 is equipped with an easy-to-replace motorized zoom/focus lens ranging between 2.3 and 2.8 times the screen width. Using this lens, the projector features a great horizontal and vertical adjustment range without resulting in image distortion.

The BarcoGraphics 4000 comes with the Auto Image feature, which automatically identifies the signal mode of the input source and optimizes all display settings. In addition, this projector allows the user to zoom in on a particular part of an image for a clear, close-up view - a big advantage with finely detailed graphics and spreadsheets with small characters. The Picture-in-Picture function enables the display of video or S-Video images in a sub-window within an image projected from a computer. For even higher light output, two units can be double stacked using a specially developed stacking frame. A backlit infrared remote control with mouse control provides instant access to set-up functions such as: motorized zoom and focus, contrast and brightness, etc.

These features make the BarcoGraphics 4000 a powerful presentation solution for portable and fixed presentation applications in boardrooms, training and education centers, demo rooms, etc. The BarcoGraphics 4000 is available now at a suggested list price of $12,995.
