BARCO Breaks New Ground in High-Brightness DLP tm Projection Technology

Press Release  |  Jan 1, 2001

BARCO SLM G5 "Performer" Steals the Spotlight with 5,000 ANSI Lumens

Kennesaw, GA - BARCO, the world leading manufacturer of video and graphics display technology, has introduced a new projector in high performance, high brightness DLP tm projection for mid-range and other demanding applications –the BARCO SLM G5 "Performer"– the first in a new family of Light Machine projectors. The SLM G5 projector combines the state-of-the-art DLP tm technology from Texas Instruments with BARCO's know-how in mechanics, optics and electronics design to produce high-quality images with an impressive light output of 5,000 lumens and exceptional video performance. In short: the "Performer" steals the show.

Exceptional Image Performance Equipped with high-resolution digital micromirror devices and an extremely powerful, state-of-the-art optical system driven by a high performance Xenon lamp, the new BARCO SLM G5 "Performer" delivers an amazing 5,000 lumens! "Linked" Constant Light Output (CLO) allows projectors in multiple screen set-ups to communicate with one another and modulate their light output, rendering a more uniform image to the viewer. The combination of Texas Instrument's high definition 3-chip XGA DLP tm technology and BARCO's newly designed Pixel Map Processor provides compatibility with all Video and HDTV signals as well as with high-resolution computers and workstations, resulting in enhanced video performance.

Ready for the Road

The BARCO SLM G5 has been designed for unsurpassed flexibility, reliability and user-friendliness. This projector can be equipped with a wide range of click-and-play lenses with throw ratios ranging between 1.2 and 5 times the screen width. The SLM's rugged design features an integrated carrying handle and rigging system, which allows for easy handling and safe transportation without any risk of damage.

For higher light output, two or three units can easily be stacked. Each projector is equipped with four Doughty clamps, which allows direct mounting to common truss systems. Unlike other competitive projection systems, these units allow direct stacking or flying using this unique interlocking feature. The modular structure facilitates easy replacement of components, even in stacked configurations, resulting in outstanding user-friendliness. Furthermore, sealed optics significantly reduce optical system maintenance, which allows the projector to be installed at events where smoke generators are being used. These features make the BARCO SLM G5 "Performer" the preferred tool for mid-range rental and staging applications as well as for preview theaters in digital cinema complexes and other demanding environments.
