Sharp Electronics Introduces Mid-Range Projector

Orlando, Fla., Mar. 07, 2001 -- Sharp Electronics Corp. introduced the XG-P20XU LCD projector for mid-sized and large venues. With 3300 ANSI Lumens brightness, native XGA resolution and 360° remote control capability, the P20 was developed for rental & staging companies, design & build companies and mobile executives, and is suited for boardrooms and entry-level custom installations.

The P20 will be available in June through Sharp's authorized dealer network at a list price of $12,995 with standard lens.

The P20 is equipped with Gyro Mouse wireless remote control, incorporating Gyration, Inc.'s GyroPoint RF Technology, which eliminates the need for line-of-sight remote control, letting users operate the P20 from any angle within a 100-foot radius, ideal for mid-sized and large venues.

The unit weighs less than 21 lbs and emits 33db of sound while in operation.

Optional lenses are available, including the AN-W6EZ and AN-T6EZ, a new 0.9:1 Manual Wide Angle lens and a Long Throw Power Zoom/Focus (4.8-6.0:1) lens. The P20 offers 1.3x Power Zoom capability and manual lens shift.

The P20 is equipped with Sharp's "PresenterPAK" – a comprehensive feature set with all the necessary tools to meet any presentation need. The P20 was designed with a native XGA (1024x768) resolution and is compatible with NTSC, PAL, SECAM and DTV/HDTV video signals. Through Sharp's Advanced ImageACE resizing, the P20 can automatically adjust to handle images up to UXGA resolutions, as well as various Macintosh and electronic workstation data signals.

Sharp's Advanced Presentation Software (S.A.P.S.), built into the P20, allows one or more projectors to be connected to a PC for remote diagnostics, control and stacking/video wall capability. S.A.P.S is designed to locate and self-diagnose system errors, instantly sending an alert to the control PC or forwarding error message emails to a predetermined list, expediting necessary maintenance and minimizing P20 downtime. The software can also be easily configured to immediately alert on-site maintenance engineers, allowing them to service the P20 before their customers become aware of service issues.

S.A.P.S. lets users daisy-chain the projector to up to 250 other P20s, which simultaneously saves space and lowers cost. Using an RS-232C connection, one PC can control an entire group of projectors by connecting to a single projector in the daisy-chain.

The P20 hasn a number of inputs, two computer inputs and one digital video interface (DVI-D) input. The unit features separate composite and S-video inputs, ensuring connectivity to more than one video source, as well as HDTV and Component Video via one RGB input.

Offering easy operation for even the first-time user, Sharp's PresenterPAK features a friendly graphical user interface (GUI) menu screen that is icon-based, color coded and uses common terminology rather than technical jargon. Computer connectors are color-coded blue, simplifying setup for users who connect to a PC.

The P20 uses Computer & Video Integrated Composer (CV-IC) technology to deliver high image quality. The model offers a 600:1 contrast ratio and a host of image-adjustment features, both automatic and manual, to allow presenters to fine-tune images to ensure the best-looking presentations. Sharp's autoSYNC automatically adjusts computer images without having to access the projector's menu system, and Advanced ImageACE Resizing automatically adjusts different source resolutions to match the projector's native resolution. Using the one-touch gamma correction feature, users can instantly adjust the color shifts that arise from using different image sources. Sharp's advanced digital keystone correction removes an effect that may cause projected images to appear trapezoidal, but unlike optical correction, this technique squares the edges of an image while maintaining brightness and image quality.
