INFOCUS® ANNOUNCES ENTRY INTO HOME ENTERTAINMENT MARKET THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WTH TOSHIBA CORPORATION
InFocus extends its award-winning projection technology to the home through leading consumer brand
WILSONVILLE, Ore. October 17, 2001 - InFocus® Corporation (Nasdaq: INFS), (OSE: IFC), the worldwide leader in digital projection, today announced its entry into the home entertainment market through a partnership with Toshiba Corporation, Tokyo. Under terms of the agreement, InFocus will supply Toshiba with a digital projection platform optimized for video display and certified for home use. The agreement also provides for future technology and product exchanges between InFocus and Toshiba.
"InFocus has enjoyed a decade of leadership in the professional digital projection market, and we are now expanding into the home entertainment segment," explains John V. Harker, InFocus chairman, president and CEO. "InFocus and Toshiba have shared a good working relationship for some time now and we expect this initial home entertainment projector to build on that success."
By adding home entertainment projectors to its product line and partnering with Toshiba in the consumer market, InFocus will benefit from Toshiba's established global sales channels and strong brand presence in the home.
According to 2001 IDC report on front projection, there are as many as 100,000 home entertainment projectors in use today. This number is expected to more than triple by 2003. In addition, IDC reports that home front projection could replace the purchase of a large screen television or other home entertainment products if the technology was more widely understood and available.
"Toshiba is the world leader in rear-projection TVs and large-screen CRT TVs and we expect further expansion in our home entertainment front-projection TV business," said Masaaki Hayashi, senior manager of the Visual Imaging Systems Dept., Visual Media Network Division of Toshiba's Digital Media Network Company. "Our good relationship with InFocus will support us in expanding our line-up of liquid crystal display and digital light processing projection TVs and allow us to meet a broad range of customer needs."
