CHRISTIE DIGITAL SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP WITH 3D PERCEPTION TO INCORPORATE
Kitchener, ON - (June 13, 2001) - Christie Digital Systems, Inc., a leader in high-performance projection solutions, today announces an agreement to co-develop an electronic module that will utilize 3D Perception's CompactU™ technology and provide geometry correction and edge blending. In addition to digital geometry and soft edge correction, the module will feature hot spot compensation, digital color balance and digital gamma correction. The new module will be designed to "plug in" to the architecture of Christie Digital's line of DLP™ projectors and provide a complete integrated solution. The module will be offered as an option for all Christie DLP™ projectors including Mirage, Vista, Roadie and Roadster products.
"Until now, some of our customers that wanted to project digital images on curved surfaces or blend multiple projectors had to rely on third party solutions. The image warping technology developed by 3D Perception is of high quality, and when integrated with Christie projectors, will provide the ultimate in digital geometry correction and soft edge blending. Now, Christie offers the complete solution built right into the projector," says Dr. Rocco Fondacaro, vice president of marketing, Christie Digital Systems.
3D Perception is a company based in Norway that designs and manufactures advanced image processing systems for wide panoramic displays used in simulation, 3D visualization, entertainment and virtual reality applications worldwide. Details on 3D Perception can be found on their Web site at http://www.3d-perception.com.
"Christie Digital's high quality DLP™ projectors combined with 3D Perception's image warping technology will provide excellent performance for multiple screen applications. We see this technology opening up new markets in advanced visualization that require several projectors matched and blended to form one continuous high quality image," remarks Bill Speer, product manager. "This is especially true with Christie's Mirage series, the first 3 chip DLP™ projector, designed for stereoscopic imaging. With the Mirage, we will now be able to combine multiple projectors on curved or flat screens seamlessly and in stereo. These systems will facilitate human interaction with more complex computer graphics models requiring higher and higher resolution."
All Christie Digital projectors are easily connected to any computer source and with the new image warping capability built-in, the solution ensures ease of setup and continued performance at a high quality level.
